The genesis of MetaPals traces back to 2022, during our CEO's Master's at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Empowered by a significant grant from the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS), a visionary team was assembled to transform a groundbreaking concept into reality. This initial exploration—focused on crafting virtual pets with an unparalleled capacity for bond formation and functional utility—catapulted MetaPals into the prestigious Techstars accelerator, as part of the inaugural Filecoin Techstars Accelerator in Seattle.
3. Technological and Financial Foundation (2022)
Leveraging these early successes, MetaPals developed the first blockchain-integrated browser extension game engine. This innovation secured a pre-seed funding round led by Protocol Labs, Acequia Capital, BlueYard Capital, and influential angel investors, laying the financial and technological groundwork for the burgeoning future of AI companions.
4. Expanding Horizons (2023)
In 2023, MetaPals' journey accelerated. Our acceptance into the SMU BIG Incubator, recognition as an advanced-level Game studio by IGDX Academy, and victory in the Huawei Cloud Startup Ignite Competition under the Metaverse category marked significant milestones. Our global footprint expanded through running landmark events across continents, such as the FVM SpaceHack Hackathon, FIL-Summit Singapore: A Helping Paw to the Metaverse, FVM Workshops, FILJakarta: Tech Fantasy, and Hacker Base in Portugal, drawing engagement from tech communities and educational institutions worldwide.
5. Partnerships and Vision Forward (2024)
Our collaborative efforts have woven MetaPals into the fabric of popular culture, establishing partnerships with beloved character IPs like Teletubbies and Hello Kitty, enhancing our reach across demographics and regions. With the backing of a substantial grant from Tezos Blockchain and a strategic bridge round from a new cohort of VCs and Angels, MetaPals is on the cusp of revealing our grand vision that redefines the essence of AI companionship.
